North Taunton Regeneration Project

A typical Woolaway home in North Taunton

We are currently involved with the first phase of the North Taunton regeneration Project for Somerset West and Taunton Council. Some 26 properties across 5 sites are being demolished.

Pre-start planning highlighted the fact that many residents were extremely anxious about the proposed works. We met with the North Taunton Residents Group that had been set up for the project, where it became clear that some of the residents had lived in their homes for many years and were very emotional about having to watch them being knocked to the ground, never to be lived in again.

As members of the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), respect for the community is at the heart of our operations. All works we carry out ensure our works give a positive and enduring impression and promote the CCS code.

One member of the community approached us asking if she could witness the demolition of her house and we did not hesitate in agreeing to and planning it to be a memorable occasion. We implemented a safe and secure area for her to stand in, accompanied by Hannah Wall our contracts administrator, and allowed her to photograph and video the works from beginning to end. She arrived at site admitting she was highly emotional but at the end of the day felt comforted by the fact that she had witnessed the event and could positively look forward to the prospect of a new home.

We’ve had great feedback from this occasion, from both the council and resident:

Really lovely feedback below for your information.
We would also like to thank you for going out of your way to provide this experience as this was a very emotional event for her. Excellent customer service, thanks.

Yes L A Moore were amazing I could not fault them at all, Hannah was with me all day I was there, and yes lots of photos and short videos were taken.
My emotions were very high to start with but as the time went on I enjoyed watching and chatting to Hannah about the neighbour and how me and my daughter have grown up there.
I can’t thank you or LA Moore for letting me in and having the experience of that day.

Many thanks …..

We continue to support the community, supplying a decorator and materials to repaint the ceilings and external walls of the local community centre that suffered arson during lockdown. We have a Meet the Contractor event organised ready to go ahead once Covid 19 rules allow.

Demolition works undoubtedly impact a community but with careful planning the community can become involved which can only enhance the industry and hopefully show that the demolition industry has come a long way since the days when buildings were knocked to the ground without thought to those likely to be affected.

L A Moore Ltd win Considerate Constructors Silver Award

We are very happy to announce that we have once again won a Considerate Constructors Silver Award. Hannah and Paul collected our award in November, at a ceremony held in the Rosewood Hotel. Many construction companies attended the event which was a great opportunity to meet others in the industry.

Considerate Constructors Award winners 2019

No other demolition company received a Silver Award, or higher, in our category of £250k – £3.5m turnover so a great big thank you to our fantastic workforce for making this award happen.

End of an era

Phil Baker in his Doosan Solar75 on site at Brue Farm Highbridge

Phil Baker has finally decided to throw away his safety boots and don his gardening wellies and is looking forward to a well earned retirement. He initially joined L A Moore Ltd in 1966, had a few breaks working elsewhere, and rejoined in 1974, some 45 years of loyal service.

The Baker family have been part of the L A Moore Ltd family since 1963 – 56 years – Mike, Rob, Phil, Alec, and Darren. Even their relations have joined us for some periods; Dennis Blinman, Mike Durston and now Paul, who is the partner of Rob’s daughter. Adding all their service together, the Baker family has worked a total of 203 years for L A Moore Ltd, which is quite a feat!

Phil is a much loved part of the company and will undoubtedly be missed and we would all like to wish him well and have a few more “lie in’s”.

Watch this space with regards a get together later in the year….
